What just happened?
According to CryptoSlate, roughly 1.3 billion shares of SpaceX become eligible for sale starting October 22. At the October 20 closing price of $147.89, that corresponds to a value of about $194.3 billion.
A week before this unlock (the "share unlock" in English, meaning the moment when previously locked shares can enter the market), Aave Labs proposed accepting tokenized SpaceX shares, traded under the SPCXc ticker, as collateral on its V4 Equities Hub built on the Base network. Aave's risk advisor, LlamaRisk, published its assessment of the listing according to CryptoSlate.
A tokenized share is a token on a blockchain meant to represent a claim on a real share. Collateral is an asset a user locks up in order to borrow another asset.
Why does the share unlock matter for collateral?
The core of the problem is the liquidity of the underlying asset. SpaceX is a private company whose shares have not traded freely on the public market until now. If the SPCXc token rests on shares that were locked until recently, then the token's price and sellability depend on how the unlocked volume actually trades.
A lending protocol must liquidate positions when the value of the collateral falls. That only works when there is a market deep enough to quickly sell the underlying asset at a price close to the oracle price. For an asset that has just gone through a massive unlock and whose market structure is new, this condition is uncertain.
Charliedesk is not concluding that problems will occur. We are noting that an unlock of this size is exactly the type of event for which risk advisors like LlamaRisk test liquidation scenarios and estimate collateral limits.
This is not an isolated move, pressure on tokenized stocks is rising
Aave is not alone. According to an announcement from October 21, Binance will list five tokenized bStocks securities as collateral assets. Tokenized stocks are thus shifting from a fringe idea into the role of collateral on major platforms.
From the other side, however, objections from the share issuers themselves are mounting. According to Decrypt, the number of companies that objected to their shares being traded on the planned OKX-ICE tokenized exchange rose from nine to sixteen over four days. Among the objectors are Microsoft, Alphabet, and Goldman Sachs.
Andrew Cuomo, former governor of New York State and co-chair of the joint venture between the OKX exchange and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), called these objections a "natural reaction" according to CoinDesk. In his view, it was to be expected that firms would take a wait-and-see stance.
Table: what we know and where it comes from
| Fact | Source |
|---|---|
| ~1.3 bn SpaceX shares eligible for sale from October 22, ~$194.3 bn | CryptoSlate |

What to watch in this type of situation?
- Real liquidity after the unlock: how deep and stable the market for SpaceX shares is after a large volume opens up.
- Collateral parameters: what limits, haircuts, and oracle solution Aave ultimately sets based on LlamaRisk's recommendations.
- The issuers' stance: whether the list of objecting firms at OKX-ICE keeps growing and whether similar objections surface against other platforms.
What we do not yet know: whether SPCXc will actually be approved on Aave, what specific limits will apply, and how the unlocked SpaceX share volume will affect the price. The published sources do not state these points.
